Can we still use crystals that are broken? If not, what should be the correct protocol of treatment?

I recently experienced some chipping of my DT and I didn't know how to react to that event. Most practitioners said that it's fine and it's 'bound to happen'.

Anyway, if our crystals experience some sort of damage, what measures or protocols are we suppose to take?
